Discover Our Island Shores

This DVD is the latest addition in our Discover Series. The aim of this 40 minute video is to bring a lively and engaging narrative of the underwater life of the Salish Sea to grade3-6 classrooms. It's a very fun and beautiful educational video designed to supplement the Washington State biology curriculum.

The footage is straight from the Salish Sea. The encounters with animals are real, close-up,  and very enticing which build the movie so that the narration actually comes from a small harbor seal literally “talking” to the camera. The  seal takes the audience by the “flipper" leading viewers through various habitats such as kelp forests, eel grass meadows, estuaries, and deep zones, and introduces concepts like the ocean food chain and food web. It teaches the importance of the habitats for the seal, and for the animals it is interacting with.  The video produces a holistic picture of the Salish Sea and offers a realistic sense of what the life and scenery looks like under the surface and how it all functions. The high quality of the video content filmed with the latest 6K cameras, aerial drones, and a cineflex-equipped helicopter also helps to awe the audience so that attention to the images and hence the messages is guaranteed.

The purpose of this movie is to create understanding and compassion for the environment, which is so important to this region, while teaching basic biological concepts.

The movie received very positive responses from delighted adult audiences when shown in the cinema. Don't miss it!
